On June 25th we as citizens of this great commonwealth will have to make a big decision, bigger than just choosing either Congressman Edward Markey (D) or Former Navy Seal Gabriel Gomez (R) to be our next United States Senator. We will have the opportunity to send a strong message to Washington on whether or not we want President Obama's Agenda to get through Congress. And lets not take this lightly my friends, it was only three years ago that we made the horrible decision to send an obstructionist Republican to the United States Senate to represent Massachusetts. We could conceivably do that again if we are not careful and don't fight to make sure Congressman Markey becomes Senator Markey.Last time we sent a Republican to the Senate from Massachusetts, he almost stopped President Obama's Affordable Care Act from being passed into law and he severely weakened the Wall Street Reform bill and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that it created. Thus putting the entire agenda that our president wanted to do on the line! We as progressives need to make sure that we don't make that mistake again. We fixed our mistake in 2012 by defeating the Republican Scott Brown and sending a strong Progressive to the United States Senate. And Senator Warren has not let us down yet! But we can't afford to make another mistake like we did in 2010.
We currently have a Republican candidate that looks pretty moderate, maybe even liberal but still bears the Republican name. It doesn't matter how liberal or conservative the Republican candidate is, he is running as a Republican and will vote the majority of the time with his party and will vote his party into power if given the opportunity. We as progressives need to make sure that anyone who will vote for Mitch McConnell as the next Senate majority leader is not sent to Washington. And we can start by not sending Gabriel Gomez to the Senate.
Also Congressman Markey will be the perfect Senator to fight for many of the key issues President Obama wants to fight for in his 2nd term. Congressman Markey currently has an F rating from the radical NRA and vows to fight for more gun control laws in the senate if given the opportunity to do so. Congressman Markey will make sure that we don't hurt the most vulnerable in our society by standing up against those who want to make cuts in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. He will fight to make sure a woman's fundamental right to choose is not violated and he will fight to make sure that the rights of the LGBTQ community shall not be infringed upon but instead he will make sure that they get to have the same fundamental rights that every other citizen gets to enjoy which including the right to marry the one they love. Congressman Markey will be a strong progressive ally for Elizabeth Warren in the US Senate, so we now have the obligation to make sure that he is elected on June 25th so he can be that ally. Because if we don't the consequences of not getting him in the US Senate are very grave.
